About Us

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina – Offering a blend of Baja-style cuisine, this casual edgy Avondale neighborhood eatery offers a new twist on the traditional taco. We start out by locally sourcing our produce and making our products, like salsa and guacamole, in house daily.  Next, our chicken and pork are both smoked in house to add a ton of flavor.  We don’t just offer tacos; you can feast on tortas, quesadillas, rice bowls, and salads as well as a fully stocked bar featuring fresh squeezed margaritas, infused tequilas, and craft beers.  But, what sets us apart from the pack is our selection and knowledge of tequilas. 

Mex 1 is short for the Mexican Federal Highway 1, which follows the length of the Baja California Peninsula from Cabo San Lucas to Tijuana.  This inspired us to create fresh and flavorful, locally sourced cuisine similar to what you may find off the Mex 1 highway.  Having a fresh taco and a cold beer after a surf session, what else could you ask for?  A cantina refers to a bar, saloon or drinking establishment.  Cantinas were often the center of gossip, politics, art and religious discussions.  

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina embraces all of this and more as a fun lively atmosphere with craveable eats, delicious fresh squeezed margaritas, local craft beers, and a wide selection of Tequilas, Mezcals, and Rums.  A neighborhood joint that is craved and visited often for the delightful cocktails, friendly service, laid back atmosphere, and grub that is good and good for you!  Who’s Hungry?
