Mex 1 Coastal Cantina in West Ashley is throwing their annual Cinco De Mayo block party with live music from The Midnight City band on Sunday, May 5th! The party starts at 4 pm, and we’re bringing the heat with live music starting at 5 pm featuring a DJ set from the Dubplates and headlined by the The Midnight City Band. We will have multiple outdoor bars, food tents, local vendors and live music so be ready for a fun night!

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Our last big event sold out at the door, and we anticipate selling out in advance for this event. You do not want to miss Chucktown’s largest Cinco De Mayo bash! So buy your tickets now before we sell out.

The Midnight City is an Alternative Pop Indie band from right here in Charleston, South Carolina. They are also a full-time cover/party event band with over 10 years experience. Most recently they were voted Charleston’s Best Local Band by Charleston City Paper readers.

Our local charity partner for the event is Warrior Surf Foundation who will be having a live auction night of the event. Warrior Surf Foundation (WSF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to provide free surf therapy, wellness coaching, yoga, and community to Veterans struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression, transition issues, and other mental health issues. We believe that all Veterans deserve the right to live lives to their fullest potential.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina invites Lowcountry margarita lovers to celebrate National Margarita Weekend at all Mex 1 locations Thursday, February 22nd through Saturday, February 24th. National Margarita day is officially Thursday, November 22nd but Mex 1 Coastal Cantina is celebrating all weekend long with ½ price pitchers of Mex 1 and Infused Margaritas. 

The house made Mex 1 Margaritas are made using 100% Agave Tequila and fresh juices. They are also doing specials around their customer favorite infused margaritas like the pineapple margarita, jalapeno margarita and pineapple habanero margarita. These infused margs use 100% Agave Tequila and fresh fruit to create a flavorful marg. Mex 1 will be offering ½ price pitchers of their house Mex 1 margarita and their infused margaritas all weekend long.

Love is in the air, and Mex 1 is turning up the charm this Galentine’s Week with an exciting promotion at all three Mex 1 locations. From February 5th to February 18th, Mex 1 invites patrons to participate in our Taylor Swift ticket promotion where we are giving away TWO tickets to see Taylor Swift this fall. Details on the giveaway below. As part of the festivities, Mex 1 will be hosting a Galentine’s Night on February 16th, featuring 1/2 price Mex 1 Margarita pitchers, a new specialty cocktail “Midnights Margarita,” inspired by the blonde pop icon herself, and entries count double for the ticket giveaway.

As a special highlight of this Galentine’s celebration, Mex 1 is thrilled to announce the “Galentine’s Taylor Swift giveaway” at all three locations. Participants will have the chance to win two tickets to see Taylor Swift live at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Friday, October 25th. Giveaway is for tickets ONLY, travel and lodging will be at winners expense.

To enter the “Galentine’s T Swift” giveaway, patrons simply need to visit any of the three Mex 1 locations during the promotion period, February 5th – 18th, and they will be eligible to enter the drawing. You can only enter one persons name and email per day! Please do not enter yourself more than once per day. There will be entry forms provided by the restaurant staff for participants to fill out their information and drop into the box. Giveaway entries will count DOUBLE during our Galentine’s event on February 16th. Participants can enter only once per day per location. You cannot enter more than once per day as we are checking that. The winner will be announced Monday, February 19th via Mex 1’s social media channels and contacted via email.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina in conjunction with Carolina Studios is excited to bring you our next installment of #Mex1Sessions with Motown Throwdown on Sunday, January 21st starting at 7pm! Motown Throwdown is a powerhouse soul band steeped in the traditions of funk, soul, pop, rock, R&B, and jazz. This outfit of local heavyweights has established itself as a leader in the Charleston music scene, beginning with their long time residency at the Charleston Pour House. The 5-piece consists of siren Aisha Kenyetta, sax-man and vocalist Mike Quinn, guitar wizard Dave Grimm, Stuart White on drums and the inimitable Corey Stephens on bass. As the name implies, the music starts within the Motown soul tradition, but manifests itself in a plethora of unique styles and arrangements from across the musical spectrum. Expect an enormously energetic performance with ripping solos, soulful vocals, and catchy, synchronized melodies on top of a thick, relentless funk driven core. Also, expect to dance and be wildly entertained.

Easy Honey Surf Documentary Premier and Live Music at Mex 1 West Ashley

Charleston – Sunday, September 17th – Join us for our Easy Honey surf documentary premier and live music on Sunday, September 17th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Mex 1 West Ashley. The surf documentary chronicles Easy Honey’s epic tour along the East Coast this past summer. The film captures the essence of their journey, their encounters with local surf culture, and the soulful connection between music and the ocean.

But that’s not all! The evening promises to be even more fun with a live performance by Easy Honey. Known for their groovy tunes and infectious energy, Easy Honey will rock the stage, adding a dynamic and vibrant dimension to the premiere event. We will then be blowing up the big screen to premier their surf documentary at dusk. 

Before the show, join us for a West Ashley Bikeway Cleanup from 5-7pm. We will be meeting at Higgins Pier Parking lot at 1022 Main St then hitting the walk way for a quick clean up of the greenway. We will then head straight to Mex 1 for the main event.

At Bach to Rock (B2R), students unlock a passion for music by playing the songs they love! B2R’s unique approach to music education combines one-on-one instruction with group practice and performance.

In lessons, students learn the foundational skills they need to be proficient in technique and theory. Meanwhile, by joining a Bach to Rock band, students get to showcase their abilities, gain confidence on stage, and build teamwork skills with their peers.

In Band and Glee Club, students get to practice with other musicians and perform as a band in local venues. Our ensemble programs help young musicians build teamwork skills, become stronger performers, and gain confidence on stage!

Bach to Rock students get to play at live events in public, like our next Solo Performer Showcase at MEX 1! On 9/9, soloists will showcase their talent performing a mix of contemporary music in a laid-back “open mic” style setting. Come check em’ out!

Halloween is just around the corner and what better way to get into spirit than showing your love for all the zombies out there! Come join us for The Walking Dead Theme Trivia on Wednesday, October 20th at 7pm at Mex 1 Park West. Drop in early as we expect to fill up quickly for this fun post-apocalyptic evening.

The 2021 Carolina Surf Film Festival will be held at Mex 1 West Ashley for a block party on Saturday, October 16, 2021, with doors opening at 5:00p.m. and the surf films beginning at dusk. Tickets purchased ahead are $15 or $25 at the door, link to purchase tickets in bio!

The lineup for this year’s festival is epic, some of the short films being shown are Tidal Wave, an animated film by Jack Brown that will show various surfers riding waves. VACA a film about a vacation trip to Puerto Rico that was supposed to only be 8 days and turned into a 50-day vacation chasing windy edges, glassy tubes and fat air sections. One of the features is Rainbows In the Rearview, a film Albee Layer. It features Albee alongside Matt Meola, Tanner Hendrickson, Torrey Meister, Kai Barger, and Tyler Larronde. This action-packed film is A+ and there are shots so beautiful it will make you want to quit everything and move to Maui. A full list of all the films being shown can be found here.

Our fundraising partner and recipient of a portion of the proceeds will go to Waves for Women a nonprofit therapeutic surf program that empowers women to build emotional and physical wellness as well as safe supportive communities through a combination of surf instruction, women’s wellness groups, and community building.

Come dance to some local live music by the Destinators, shop with the local vendors onsite and enjoy food and drinks being served from multiple bars available for film goers to imbibe and watch some epic new surf films.

Mex 1 West Ashley will be hosting our next Theme Trivia based on an iconic TV show from the 90’s that included 6 best friends and a mutual love of a coffee shop. Mex 1 Mic’d Up, hosted by local legend Danielle Howle, will take place every Tuesday at 6 PM, beginning Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Mex 1 Coastal Cantina and Awendaw Green hope to appeal to new, local musicians in Charleston and surrounding areas to feature at Mex 1 Mic’d Up throughout the fall season.

The show will start at 6pm. Musicians will be given a 15 minute window to preform. Signup begins at 5:30 pm and it is based on first come first serve until the roster is full. We suggest aspiring artists to get there early to fill their spot. We hope you bring your friends and family to cheer you on!

So we are bringing back another Comedy Night, this time on Tuesday, March 23rd starting at 7pm. Alex’s Baldauf absurdist musings toe the line between reality and insanity. He enjoys spending his free time posting memes, petting his dog, all while containing his inner insanity.

Caleb McCraw brings to the stage his southern sensibilities and unique prospective. That’s been carved through years of Myrtle Beach vacations and flea market shopping sprees.

Dan sweeney was born on earth from two parents. He is the host of the Lowcountry’s worst podcast “The San Dweeney Show.” His greatness in comedy has been described as being on par with 2020s greatness as a year.

Spirited vocals and braided harmonic guitars backed by lively bass and hot drums are served up just right.
